Interview With Selina Doghan (Armenian member of the Turkish parliament representing CHP party)

Interview With Selina Doghan (Armenian member of the Turkish parliament representing CHP party)

1.  What is ur comment on these elections, especially that AKP secured a surprising victory. Do you think that the results mean a victory for AKP

Since the last elections we passed through an extraordinary period. The president didn't accept / respect the electors will and forced the public to a reelection. He exhausted the coalition alternative and practiced all the crual methods to regain the sole power and not share it.

We lost around 900 peoples in various attacks in the last 4 months . The economy is suffering . We even couldn't mourn together after massacres because a part of the society is ennemised against the other.

The most important is that the rule of law is extremely irrespected.Freedom of expression , press freedom the neutrality of the president of republic are hardly violated. THis was all for 400 deputies . RTE personally confessed it in a tv program. The rate of the trust to the juridical system is 20 %...

AKP has managed the public opinion in such a manner that he gain vote . It wasn't hard for them since they are dominating almost the hall media and the juridical system .

After all attacks they managed to lump pkk, pyd, IŞID and ypg  in the same magic box. And they strongly emphasized the religious and nationalist speech. The average AKP voter beleives that PKK is the author of Ankara massacre. They don't even questionning what is IŞID looking for in our country and what would be their risk in our life.  AKP took hostage society's mind and moral conscience.

They attacked media groups they attacked twitter accounts they put into prison who ever critisized RTE . They pumped the hate speech to all "others" and encouraged the polices illegal operations against all type of oppositional manifestation or sometimes just peacefull..

So , yes . It is a big victory for them because they managed to apply the illusional scenario very succesfully pretending that coalitons are crual, that without a sole power government Turkey would live in a chaos that the economy is suffering because AKP is not the governing party...

Even themselve they didn't expect such a result. None of the investigation companies could assume this result. IN addition to this MHP's ununderstandable policy served them ...

2- After the elections, will AKP be able to form a government alone? Will it put an end to the political crisis which started on June 7

Yes according to the arithmetical result they have enough vote rate to gouvern alone. But fortunately not enough to establish the presidential system. If AKP doesn't rehandle the solution process regarding the Kurds question I'm afraid we won't reach the convenient atmosphere to reestablish the rule of law and the democratical mechanism again in a short term.

3- What projects and plansdo you have, as an armenian parliament member from the CHP party. Especially that you are one of those Armenians who, for the first time, enter the Turkish parliament.

My challenges are remaining the same actually . As an Armenian  deputy of course I will fight against all kind of discrimination ans human rights violations. But I wouldn't like to be limited in my identity. I'm Armenian but a deputy of TUrkey. So My responsability concerns every citizen in Turkey. In this sens I feel that my duty is harder now because unfortunately the polarisation and impunization increased deeply in the last 4 months. Today who ever is not an AKP supporter is an "other" .

4- The armenian-turkish relations are in a coma for a long time. In this context, do you see positive signs? Do you expect a positive change in the relations?

Please let me correct your question. Turkey's foreign policy is in a coma !  European union process has been almost frozen, our relations with the middle east ...

As a deputy of the opposition part my duty is to establish positive bridges between two people. As you may remember THe first day after I've been officially elected I invited TUrkey to not ennemize the Armenian diaspora . Because they are Turkey's ( as the prime minister mentioned on his way back from Armenia) diaspora and they are not our ennemies they are Anatolian people in a nostalgy of Turkey..We should find a way to gain them.  As CHP we even inserted in our election book to return the nationality to those who lost it as a result of forced migrations. And also I am ready to contribute for the borders to be opened...

Even my candidature and existence in the party and the parliement made a big change in the party and the public opinion  in a positive sens. As long as we contact to each other and we respect our fundemental rights such as freedom of expression we can make big changes in the policies...

5- Do you think that the clashes with PKK and other organizations will continue after the elections? Or will there be a solution?

AKP used the PKK attackes against HDP and tried to marginalize it . As a result those HDP voters who used to be AKP or CHP or even MHP voters doupted the KUrds practicing ( civil) politics in the parliement. In addition to all the facts I mentioned above electors voted to the "stability".

So it all depends how the AKP will handle the solution / peace process again this time...
